A woman is unsure of the name of the contraception she is using, she describes it as "I take a tablet every day of the month without breaks, I know it is important I take it at the same time every day."

Which of the following is she most likely to be using?

A) Mirena
B) Cerazette
C) Nexplanon
D) Yasmin
E) Microgynon 30

The answer is B. Cerazette is an example of a progestogen only pill (POP), POP have a smaller time window when they can be taken compared to the combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP, e.g. microgynon 30). Mirena coil is placed inside the uterus. Nexplanon is the name for the contraceptive implant. Yasmin is a trade name of a COCP.

  1. good work here jon.

one comment about this question though - the concept is great but it's a shame you picked Cerazette as it is the ONLY prog only pill that DOESN'T have a tight window of administration. Any of the other POPs (eg Micronor) would have been fine as they have to be taken at the same time every day, or at least within a 3 hour window.

Other than that, the question is well written and definitely reflects a common clinical scenario in GP, great work.
