A 24 year old woman presents to her GP with a 3 month history of bloating, abdominal discomfort and diarrhoea. Along with an examination the GP decides that a diagnosis of coeliac disease is most likely, which of the following is most associated with coeliac disease?

A) AFP
B) Anti-mitochondrial antibodies
C) Anti-GBM antibodies
D) c-ANCA

The answer is E. Although IgA transglutaminase antibody (TTG) is most commonly associated with coeliac disease, IgA Endoysial antibodies are also associated with coeliac disease.

AFP otherwise known as alpha-fetoprotein is the tumour marker for hepatocellular carcinoma.
Anti-mitochondrial antibodies are associated with primary biliary cirrhosis.
Anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibodies are associated with Goodpasture's syndrome.
c-ANCA is associated with Wegner's granulomatosis and Churg-strauss syndrome.
